Gaetano Donizetti ‘Una Furtiva Lagrima’

So not really a ‘new’ track today, but I make my own rules on this blog so I can do what I want! Was taken to the opera last night at the Royal Opera House and just had to post this, one of my favourite arias of all time.

Taken from the comic classic ‘L’elisir d’amore’ by Gaetano Donizetti, which features a few outstanding duets between the lovers, ‘Una Furtiva Lagrima’ comes as a change of tempo in the opera. Here is a brief synopsis: Nemorino is in love with Adina, but she isn’t interested in a relationship with an innocent, rustic man. To win her heart, Nemorino buys a “love potion” with all the money he has in his pocket. The “love potion” is actually a cheap red wine sold by a traveling con man. But when he sees Adina weeping, he knows that she has fallen in love with him and is sure that the “Elixir” works.

Here is the greatest singer of all time performing one of the most beautiful love songs ever written, enjoy!
