While there isn’t much good news coming out of Mali at the moment, there is some reason to rejoice. Salif Keita, known as the ‘Golden Voice of Africa’ finally released his new album ‘Tale’ at the end of 2012. It is set to hit the US soon and just last week he released a new video for the beat-heavy track ‘A Demain’
Salif Keita, the direct descendant of Sundiata Keita, the Mandinka warrior king who founded the Malian empire in the 13th century has been wowing audiences with his vocal abilities since the 70’s. His music blends together traditional Malian sounds with other West African influences from Guinea, the Ivory Coast and Senegal, and more recently with influences from Cuba, Spain and even UK and the US.
His new album, Tale’ was produced by Gotan Project’s Philippe Cohen-Solal and recorded in Bamako. He incorporates new electronic sounds and devices to enhance and modernise Salif’s sound, without ever compromising the living legend’s traditions.
