Another classic Malian tune today. After his amazing Grammy nominated ‘I Speak Fula’, ngoni player Bassekou Kouyate and has returned with his third album ‘Jama Ko’. Much needed in Mali today, the album calls for unity, peace and tolerance. It makes this release all the more moving as on Kouyate’s first day in the studio, president Amadou Toumani Toure was overthrown and Mali was turned into chaos. The recording went on throughout the worsening times in Mali and now stands firm as a musical call for peace.
Produced by Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire) and released via Outthere Records, this is an album that should appeal to a wider crowd.
