JJ Grey & Mofro ‘Somebody Else’

I’ve been listening to JJ Grey and his band Mofro’s style of soul-driven funked-up southern rock for over 10 years and for some reason I still want more. Their new album ‘The River’ is another beautifully recorded and well written set of songs that’ll transport you immediately to the heat and humidity of their home in Jacksonville, Florida.

JJ Grey has a strong voice on him (he also has a knack for catchy choruses and lazy guitar lines) but the band (they used to be just called Mofro) are as tight as anyone in theĀ business. That’s all on show on ‘Somebody Else’ with it’s off-beat horn riffs, trembling organs, blues guitar and funk inspired percussion.
